As cultural critic Roger Sabin explains in his book Adult Comics (1993), there had always been comics for adults, and adults had always gained enjoyment from comics regardless of the material’s supposed audience, but in the late 1970s those children who had embraced the comics boom of the 1960s were now older and sought more realistic and mature comics. In print comics, the reader’s eye can skim from the top left panel of the first page to the bottom right of the second page, and then go back to the first panel to read more attentively, in sequential order; hence the creator has less control over the reader’s eye and there are more diverse ways of constructing the narrative, depending on the reader’s reading habits.

However, some kids do not wish to read manga (too much violence and sex) I wasn’t much of a fan of Kolchalka’s weird Johnny Boo series for young readers. This almost wordless graphic novel is intended for older readers, but Mushroom seemed to think the whole thing was hilarious, even without being able to read what little text there was. Kolchalka’s style is purposefully rough and this story is absurd, but amusing epub. It will also help you get used to the formatting if this is your first time reading a graphic based book.
